Further investigations of the little cherry disease in New Zealand

چکیده
In a trial to determine if flowering cherries (Prunus serrulata Lindl.) were a source of little cherry disease, infection was found in seven of 10 species and cultivars tested. In an orchard trial with the cultivar 'Lambert', fruit symptoms of little cherry occurred in infected trees in the fifth year of fruiting, 8 years after planting. The symptoms also occurred in the two succeeding years, after which time the trial was terminated. The indicator 'Canindex I' showed more pronounced leaf reddening symptoms than the indicator 'Van', and has superseded it as an indicator for little cherry. Trees tested from old plantings of 'Dawson' sweet cherry (P. avium L.) which had been shown to have good, true to type fruiting characteristics, were mainly free from little cherry disease.

Investigating Childhood and Adolescence Poisoning Exposures in New Zealand Reported to the National Poisons Centre during 2000-2009
Background: Poisoning incidents, in both children and adolescents, are known to occur in New Zealand but little is known about the agents implicated. Methods: All the calls received over the ten years between 2000 and 2009, by the National Poison Centre in New Zealand, were retrospectively reviewed. Calls related to cases involving those less than 19 years were included. The data were analy...
متن کاملWhat Can We Learn from 21 Years of School Poisonings in New Zealand?
Background: Childhood poisoning is a significant international health concern. Very little is known about trends in exposures within schools and preschools. The objectives of this study were to investigate the data recorded by the New Zealand National Poisons Centre (NPC) on these types of exposures over a 21 year period (1989 to 2009) and to determine trends and propose strategies to reduce th...

Endophytic fungi constitute a remarkable multifarious group of microorganisms live within plants tissues without causing any obvious negative effect. Endophytic fungi have been found in every plant species examined to date. During an investigation on endophytic fungi, 123 fungal isolates were obtained from healthy twigs and leaves of cherry (Prunus avium) and sour cherry (P. cerasus) trees in I...
متن کاملIsolation and characterization of bacteria from the lesion of juvenile sea cucumber Holothuria scabra (Jaeger, 1938) with symptom of skin ulceration disease
Echinoderm diseases have attracted little interest in contrast to the other commercial marine organisms. This study reports the pathogenesis pattern of juvenile Holothuria scabra. 11 pure bacteria were isolated from lesions of juvenile H. scabra with the symptoms of skin ulceration disease. Phylogenetic identification based on 16S rRNA gene sequences analysis revealed that they belonged to the ...

Background: Gastrointestinal (GI) endocrine cells produce many GI hormones that perform various physiological functions of the digestive system. Aims: We aimed to investigate the presence and distribution of immunoreactive (IR) endocrine cells to glucagon, somatostatin, cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8), serotonin, secretin and histamine in the stomach of adult male Ne...
